Yes you will need to update to Lion.Tonymac and Macman also say Apple has no support for HD2000.Any posts connected with HD2000 do not show much promise unless something has changed in the last few weeks. Basically for optimum success you need a CPU that supports HD3000 and Lion.I use a G530 which has HD only. I got very mixed results. About this Mac reported at one time or another HD3000 or HD2000 with various memory sizes depending on rboot with safe boot or cache ignored and I had sound difficulties. Eventually it booted without rboot.

This is with Lion. I would get lo res or hi res depending on tweaking also.I did not use VGA. I used HDMI and DVI on HDTV and DVI monitor.The HDTV did strange things to working audio over headphones.The working audio disappeared when hooked to TV.You may get fixed graphics working using VESA. To update to Lion check out UNibeast @ Tonymac.You can purchase a usb drive from Apple store and mod it to install Lion.You only need Appstore to get Lion as a download.I think even Apple says you can install Lion with 10.6.I have seen many people claim to do this from 10.7.When you update Snow Leopard use downloaded combo update.I hate 10.6.8. After this new revision came out HD 2000 became dead issue. You are looking at old posts.It does not hurt to try your hardware out on Windows or linux before installing Mac.That is what I was saying.Make sure your bios is set right for graphics including memory size.

Were you just using VESA?A cheap video card will outperform HD Graphics. GT240 or GT430 usually work right out of box. That would be cheaper than different processor that supports HD3000.
