Review: From his native Dusseldorf to his adopted home of Berlin, Alex Niggemann's name is synonymous with the German tech house sound and appearances on a who's who of labels in recent years. From Poker Flat, Last Night On Earth and Tsuba to his own respected Aeon and Soulfooled imprints, he has shown his knack for deep and sexy grooves and his last eight years of DJing and studio prowess is on display for the latest edition of Australia's Balance series of mix compilations.

The programming on Balance runs the gamut from deep, dark journey tracks (Gui Boratto 'Joker' (Dave DK mix)'/Baikal - 'Pelican's Flight'), dreamy hypnotism (Aril Brikha/Sebastian Mullaert - 'Illuminate'/Antigone 'Blue Note') and some new exclusives from the man himself, such as the mighty slow burner 'Divergent'. As always, there's a bonus track featuring all the aforementioned on a continuous mix. Review: The legend from Leipzig Daniel Stefanik helms the third instalment of Dots & Pearls for Frankfurt institution Cocoon. The long time affiliate of the Leipzig's famed Distillery club has been on the scene for over a decade, with releases on the likes of Moon Harbour and Mobilee so you can trust the DJ on this one. For this edition (said to be a retrospective of sorts for the label) it will come in a continuous DJ mix with some brand new and unreleased tracks. Stefanik will also include four of his own edits including Guido Schneider & Andre Galluzzi's 'Mario' and Luca Ballerini's 'Impressions Of A Dawn' and 'Orizzonte'. Review: Part of the appeal for Ricardo Tobar to move to a premier league label like Cocoon was the label's ability to access top-flight remixers.

As Part 1 shows, Sven Vath's label has certainly been successful in this regard and Fairmont and John Tejada have been drafted in to rework tracks from Tobar's second album. Fairmont's take on 'Angora' is a classic slice of modern trance - the synth and bass merge into an indistinct throb of spine-tingling melody as percussion clicks and whirrs, working furiously to keep it all from spilling over into a kaleidoscopic mess. On the flip, LA native John Tejada takes on 'Invierno' and marries a wall of pulsing bass with the eerie melodies that have become his signature.

Review: Ricardo Tobar follows 2017's Liturgia release on ESP Institute with this diverse EP. The title track is an expansive affair, with swirling electronic sounds unfolding over a rumbling bass and rolling, dusty drums.

It's a loose, unhurried track that gradually sucks the listener in as it progresses on its way. By contrast, 'La Venida Del Mar' offers up a different side to the Chilean producer's production. There, the rhythm is more buzzing and electronic, with a nagging ebm riff shot through with recycled rave vocals and underpinned by filtered layers of percussion. 'Birds' effortlessly represents two different sides to this talented artist's canon. Review: Desire Records mainstay Ricardo Tobar on Cocoon?

We were just as surprised as you! But it's for real and the Collection LP was testament to this. One of the most overlooked albums of 2015 now gets the remix treatment.

The Jonson brothers team up again as Midnight Operator for a rare remix on 'Angora', a bleepy and driving epic that combines the trademark sound of both acclaimed producers in an electrifying frenzy. Dial boss Lawrence is also onboard for a remix and he too lends his unmistakable purist deep house vibes to 'Red Light'; all emotional strings, dreamy keys and mellow beats that is, overall, oh so bittersweet. Review: It looks like 2019 is going to be Tobar's year. Having dropped his vivid, expansive Continuidad album for ESP Institute, he now returns to the label with more heat.

'Recife', which featured on the long player, is presented in 'Bailemix' format, making it a searing, sensuous groove that resounds to steely drums and a searing, low-slung bass. It's a mesmerising, hypnotic track, one that is sure to get played at festivals this summer. On the flip, the Chilean artist drops a new arrangement. 'Cuatro Meses De Verano' is a slower, more complex groove, featuring epic, Italo-style synths and the murkiest bass tones this side of Nation's catalogue. Review: Chilean producer Ricardo Tobar has released music on far more labels than most, building up an impressive discography that includes outings on such lauded imprints as Border Community, Traum Schallplatten, Cocoon and, most recently, Correspondant.

Here he adds another fine label to his bulging CV via a four-track missive on Lovefingers' ESP Institute. There's much to admire throughout, from the jangling South American instrumentation, Balearic atmosphere and loose house grooves of opener 'La Dormida', to the sleazy synth bass, quietly forboding synthesizer lines and restless cowbells of standout 'Liturgia'. The fun doesn't stop there, though: both 'The Lake' - a skewed trip into psychedelic leftfield house territory - and weirdo closer 'Star Alliance' are superb. Review: Ricardo Tobar takes the listener to electronic music's outer limits on his latest artist album. Like the aesthetic of that other great producer of Chilean origin, Ricardo Villablobos, Continuidad is a sprawling, vivid affair. It moves from the gritty guitar sounds of 'Les Vagues' and 'Totem' into the jangling percussive rhythm of 'Recife', before edging back into abstraction with dirge-like arrangements such as 'Purple Sun, Rising' and 'Vestigios'. Tobar even touches on psychedelic textures on tracks like 'First' - whose detuned guitars and tripped out nuances sound like early Pink Floyd getting it on with Spacemen 3 - but eventually makes his way back to the dance floor with the expansive groove of 'Birds'.

Continuidad is a journey in the truest, most cosmic sense. Review: Ricardo Tobar lands on Sven Vath's mighty Cocoon brand with an LP after previous appearances on the likes of Border Community.

This isn't a house or techno album per se but rather ten tracks of percussion-driven electronica; a breath of fresh air in a back catalogue dominated by clean and effective DJ tools. In fact, this is probably the most experimental thing that we've ever heard on the label, where tracks like 'Brittle', 'Pasaje' or 'Red Light' contain a truly lo-fi edge not usually associated to Vath's more direct vision of club music. Walls of loose percussion meet airy landscapes of sound with a totally abstract edge, the grooves barely held together in rhythmic chunks. Wonderful stuff, this is not to be missed!
